“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey, champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship sister organization Strikeforce, has signed with UFC, who are therefore declaring her a champion even though she has not yet won any fights in their newly-announced female bantamweight division. UFC President Dana White praised Rousey in this backwards fashion:
“No other (female) fighters have what Rousey has,” he said. “She’s nasty. She’s mean. She’d actually fight a dude if that’s what it took to get in the UFC. She’d do it… I’ve seen a lot of tough girls, but I haven’t seen a girl with the whole package until I met her.”
On February 26, Rousey will fight Liz Carmouche, another former Strikeforce contender, who also just signed with UFC to become their first openly-gay fighter.
