This is Just Depressing

Scott DeJarlais, a “pro-life” Republican Tea Party Congressman and doctor, slept with a patient, got her pregnant and then pushed her to have an abortion.

I’m still very skeptical of the idea that Republicans are deliberating waging a “war on women”, but it gets very hard to defend the pro-life movement and libertarian values when people act like this.

Arg. While I couldn’t care less about the fate of the Republican Party, how can anti-abortion activists and apologists expect anyone to engage in reasoned discourse when they spew nonsense like this?

Tea Party Candidate Comes Down with Serious Case of Ideologically-Transmitted Crazy Mouth

Representative Todd Akin, who is running for Senate under the Tea Party banner, appeared on KTVI-TV in St. Louis today and claimed that it’s “really rare” for rape to result in pregnancy:

“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Akin then went on to say that we’re definitively winning the War on Drugs, that Latinos are a privileged class in the U.S., and that George W. Bush was recently voted most popular American President ever by a stunning majority of Middle-Eastern nations.
